Why the Second Amendment is a
call to Duty and
not just a freedom.
Amendment II:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Thomas Jefferson gave us the reasoning behind the need for a well regulated militia. It had nothing to do with threats from foreign nations. Jefferson was speaking of domestic enemies when he said:
"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." (The people will not understand the importance of the Second Amendment until it is too late.)
Jefferson also said:
"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."
"If the American people ever allow private banks
to control the issue of their currency,
first by inflation, then by deflation,
the banks and corporations that will grow up around them
will deprive the people of all property
until their children wake up homeless
on the continent their Fathers conquered...
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous
to our liberties than standing armies...."
